Rust Rewrite and DAG Knight implications for nodes and coins?

Hello, I have a couple of Noob questions. When the Rust rewrite and Dag Knight protocols are finished, will we have to update our nodes for each new addition? I'm currently running a KDX node. Also, our old Kaspa coins are still valid, correct? I've heard talk about a "Hard Fork" but don't have the knowledge to understand the implications. Would someone be able to help educate me how this will work when each of the respective technologies are implemented? thanks!

A hard fork is just some kind of consensus change. So unless it's contentious, the user should just think of it as a mandatory upgrade. No network split is expected with the mentioned hard forks.

so, based on response the Rust rewrite and DagKnight implementation will be a hard fork event, we will need to upgrade each time, but everyone will upgrade so there will not be a network split and our current Kaspa coins will still be good. Is that a correct understanding? Thanks for your patience!

For now, the Rust rewrite upgrade is not planned as a hard fork

Yes, your Kaspa coins are safe, network upgrade doesn't require to do anything from user perspective.
